• в этих произведениях приводятся провокационные утверждения, не соответствующие заключениям тех, кто непосредственно исследует эту тему. Заявляется, что «Иисус был ессеем», а специалисты приходят в выводу, что служение и проповедь Иисуса были бы прямо отвергнуты в Кумране. Утверждается, что брак Иисуса с Марией Магдалиной — это «самая важная и лучше всего хранимая тайна всех времен»; при этом никто из компетентных исследователей не смог раскрыть ее прежде Дэна Брауна. Говорят, что «Иуда был убит Петром» (Мишель Бенуа), хотя ни один специалист об этом не подозревал;

• для сочинений подобного жанра выбираются эпизоды абсолютно второстепенного значения только из-за того, что они могут стать сенсацией (любовные отношения Иисуса и Марии Магдалины, поведение Иуды, «тайные учения» Иисуса и т. д.). В то же время остается за рамками то, что исторически составляет ядро проповеди и служения Иисуса: его послание о Боге, его заступничество за бедных, критика власть имущих, призыв к обращению и его замысел о более справедливом мире для всех.
