Настоящее издание продолжает публикацию избранных работ А. В. Михайлова, начатую издательством «Языки русской культуры» в 1997 году. Первая книга была составлена из работ, опубликованных при жизни автора; тексты прижизненных публикаций перепечатаны в ней без учета и даже без упоминания других источников.Настоящее издание отражает дальнейшее освоение наследия А. В. Михайлова, в том числе неопубликованной его части, которое стало возможным только при заинтересованном участии вдовы ученого Н. А. Михайловой. Более трети текстов публикуется впервые.
